NBR rubber is above all resistant to oils, especially hydraulic oils, lubricants, petrol and other aliphatic hydrocarbons, diluted acids and lyes. Good physical values such as high friction resistance and ruggedness and good temperature resistance (-25 °C up to +120 °C, in part to -40 °C) give this natural rubber a wide range of uses.
It is quite common for a groove to develop at the sealing lip at some point due to long-term use. As a result, the new oil seal no longer fits and seals properly. It is not strictly necessary to replace or repair the entire shaft. Take a closer look at the dimensions first. It may be possible to fit with a slightly narrower or wider oil seal next to the groove. Alternatively, using the Speedi-Sleeve repair kit, repair the running surface under the seal.

How are Oil Seals made?
A square rubber gasket is a vital component in various mechanical applications, providing a seal between two surfaces to prevent leakage or contamination. These gaskets are commonly used in machinery, engines, piping systems, and automotive applications.
Many – too numerous to list, covering a vast range of designs, sizes, and materials suitable for a never-ending range of applications. Some designs conform to International Standards such as BS1399 and DIN 3760 for metric sizes and seal types, but the majority have been manufactured to suit particular applications – hence the enormous selection available. Leather is probably the oldest of the lip materials still in common use, but the move towards mass production methods has seen a massive increase in the development of synthetic rubbers which lend themselves to accurate and repeatable injection and compression moulding. Nitrile (NBR) is still by far the most common elastomer for “normal” use, whilst Viton® (FKM/FPM) is rapidly replacing Polyacrylate (ACM) and Silicone (VMQ) for high-temperature applications. Viton® also has high resistance to abrasion and chemical attack making it a preferred elastomer. Recent developments in the use of PTFE for Rotary shaft seals has caused widespread interest particularly for high-speed shaft rotation or poor lubrication applications.
